Mathematician
Isaac Newton said, “If I have seen farther than others, perhaps it is
because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.” Newton never forgot
he was building on the knowledge of those who went before him.
This time we look
at the value of learning – from others, from experience and from history
– “giants” whose shoulders we can stand on.
Peterbilt shares
the thinking that went into the new Model 387, a truly aerodynamic tractor
that sacrifices nothing of legendary Peterbilt “class.”
The experience
of innumerable end-users, combined with technologies from widely different
disciplines – and the experience of sister companies around the world
– created a truck that should please fleet management, maintenance, drivers
and dealers.
The folks at BFI’s
Davie, Florida, operation give us their view of customer service, and
show us how they use their experience to prepare for a potential disaster.
We’ll also see
how BFI’s input resulted in a new Bridgestone radial, the R296, designed
for refuse haulers who require enormous load capacity, but who rarely
go off the highway. And
experience isn’t always in the past. Peter Kiewit Sons’ Neal Ferry and
Andy Anderson explain how their tire needs constantly change – because
no Kiewit job is exactly like any previous one – and how they look to
Bridgestone’s racing experience to provide them with real answers for
the future.
Speaking of racing,
we’ll share the experience of Glenn Brown of CFI in breaking one land
speed record and setting another – in a Class 8 truck.
We’ll also show
how YOUR experience with your tires – when written down – can provide
you with clues to reduce irregular wear and tire cost per mile.
Finally, we’ll
learn how tire pressure gauges work and how brakes can ruin a tire – from
the inside.
That’s a lot of
shoulders to stand on, so let’s get started! |
