We all know the saying: An ounce of prevention
is worth a pound of cure. What does it mean? Literally taken, it's
saying that you get sixteen times
as much benefit from preventing something as you do from fixing it.
Is that right?
That's what we're going to explore in this issue of Real
Answers. A lot of prevention, and some cure, too. To begin,
we've assembled a distinguished panel of experts on retreading who
will help us understand what really causes "road gators," and what
we, as an industry, can do to stop them.
We also talk with Steve Maxson, vice president of preventive maintenance
for Averitt Express, about Averitt's approach to maximizing equipment
utilization by minimizing downtime - through effective preventive
maintenance.
We'll look at how you can prevent many of your tires from ending up
in the scrap pile, and how you can prevent tire cost per mile from
spiraling out of control.
Then, we'll see how our newest rib tire, the R270 steer/drive radial
"prevents" bloated tire inventories by letting you use just one tire
on every axle, without sacrificing long tread life and solid traction.
What about the cure? That's when we visit Essroc's cement kiln in
Bessemer, Pennsylvania, where they're eliminating tons of scrap tires
by burning them to make high-quality Portland cement.
Then, just for fun, we'll take a high-speed run up Pikes Peak - in
a 960-horsepower Kenworth T2000. And finally, we'll tell you how much
the air in your tires adds to your load.
But, if we go on any further, we'll be "preventing" you from getting
into this issue of Real Answers.
So, turn the page, and see what we have for you this time. |
