Choose the R280 for Even Tread Wear

Long Tread Life - Low Life Cycle Costs

The new R280 tread design incorporates a wide tread with straight grooves and Bridgestone's latest high-tech irregular wear-fighting technologies for even wear and high removal mileage.

Bridgestone's R280 is a new, wide-tread, non-directional rib radial with state-of-the-art features to combat irregular wear.

It's a real answer for fleets in long regional and long distance line hauling who often have to remove steer tires because of irregular wear - long before they're worn out.

To produce that slow, even wear, the Bridgestone R280 incorporates the latest in irregular wear-fighting features, including Bridgestone's exclusive, patented, Equalizer RibTM design.

The R280 is Bridgestone's newest high-tech all-position rib radial specially designed for long regional and long distance line haul work.

Working together with a footprint shape that optimizes itself as it wears, Bridgestone's exclusive Equalizer RibTM structures combat irregular wear on the main ribs.

Meanwhile, Bridgestone's proven Defense GrooveTM feature fights the initiation and spread of shoulder edge wear, while uniquely shaped rib edge sipes relieve rolling stresses that can cause river and wavy wear.

Special groove-bottom platforms resist casing-damaging stones to improve retreadability. And, the R280's ultra-wide tread allows easy retreading for drive axle use.

Result: Long original mileage and durable, versatile casings for low life cycle costs, both new and when retreaded.

What Makes It Tough
Irregular Wear Resistance

The R280's Equalizer Rib design uses two patented, narrow ribs to fight irregular wear on the main ribs beside them.

Almost like lightning rods, these ribs attract the forces that tend to cause irregular wear to start and spread.

That makes the Equalizer Rib structures wear more quickly than the ribs beside them, in effect, sacrificing themselves to protect the main ribs.

Patented Equalizer Rib design, combined with an optimized footprint shape, fights main rib irregular wear throughout the life of the original tread.

Tiny notches along rib edges, called stress-relief sipes, disperse forces in the footprint that can lead to river and wavy wear. Each sipe has a rounded inner end to resist tearing.

Shoulder wear Protection
Bridgestone's proven Defense GrooveTM shoulder design creates tiny stepped-down ribs that - like the R280's Equalizer Rib structures - sacrifice themselves to prevent the initiation and spread of shoulder edge wear.

Choose the R280 for Long Tread Life and Retreadability

What Makes It Last

A. Straight grooves
provide efficient water ejection on wet highways, while eliminating sites where irregular wear can start and spread.

B. Groove-bottom
platforms help prevent retention of stones that can drill into belts, diminishing casing life and reducing retreadability.

C. Wide tread
disperses load and side forces for long wear and high traction, while allowing retreading with driver-preferred wide drive caps.

Tie bars stabilize
tread elements

Each tread rib element is linked to its neighbors with computer-designed tie-bars that reduce the effects of side forces and squirm to promote even wear - without sacrificing solid traction.

What Makes It First
Like every Bridgestone, the R280 has a casing designed for long life and retreadability. Four full steel belts and an all-steel body ply provide outstanding durability.

And, the R280 has a wide tread base, making it ideal for drive axle retreads, with the versatility to be retreaded for either drive or trailer axles, making it a valuable player in any retreading program.

14 Years Of Triumph
The R280 is designed to be retreaded - again and again. In fact, for 14 straight years, professional retreaders ranked Bridgestone truck radials #1 for retreadability, more first place positions than for all other tire manufacturers combined.*

Retreaded or not, it's nice to know your Bridgestone radials are built to take the punishment of today's trucking - especially late at night and far from home.
